황정은 소설의 환상과 리얼­『百의 그림자』와 『야만적인 앨리스씨』를 중심으로

Abstract

This essay examines the relationship of the fantastic and the real, focused on Baegeu Grimza(『백의 그림자』) and Yamanjeokin Mr. Alice(『야만적인 앨리스씨』). In Whang Jungeun's novels, the fantastic appears as a crucial part of the real space. Or it deconstructs reality through repetitive narration of the unreal story. And in that procedure, the new dimension of the reality folds out. In the novel Baegeu Grimza(『백의 그림자』), the fantastic and unreal image of 'upstanding shadows' closes up the reality in implying the unhappiness and darkness in itself. In this novel, 'shadows' are the pathological image which implies the all minority's unhappiness and pains, at the same time a fixed point on which every unhappiness and pains of the world converged. In Whang's novels, ethical sensibility that never disregard the misfortunes of individual and the world itself, is combined with aesthetical experiment efficiently. For example, in Baegeu Grimza, that appears as research of the linguistic forms and experiment of politica value of tautology. And in Yamanjeokin Mr. Alice, that appears as experiment of mise en abyme which revitalizes the diversity of text in repeating the same structure and contents. What this author says through an unique use of the fantastic and interesting formal experiments, is that we must go into the core of the darkness and tragedy of this world, and must testify to the fact of darkness of this world. In that procedure, reality of Korean literature introduces a new dimensions. That is the politics of the fantastic and a new aesthetical and political possibility in Whang's novels.
