보병대대 공격작전간 METL이 전투결과에 미치는 영향 분석: KCTC 훈련 사례분석

Abstract

KCTC (Korea Combat Training Center) training is the most realistic live training exercise conducted by the Army and has been expanded to the brigade level since 2018, with training results being stored as data. Analysis of these training results using KCTC data has been carried out by the KCTC unit and external researchers. After the completion of brigade-level training, the KCTC unit conducts after-action reviews for analysis, while external researchers analyze the outcomes of multiple brigade training simultaneously to identify key factors impacting combat outcomes. However, previous studies that analyzed multiple training results simultaneously have only used training outcome data, making it impossible to assess how the training preparation process impacts results. Since 2023, METL (Mission Essential Task List) data, which records the training preparation process of units, has been accumulated at the KCTC unit. Thus, there is a need to analyze the relationship between this METL data and training outcome. This study aims to analyze the impact of METL on combat outcomes by combining it with KCTC data, which previous studies have not addressed. To achieve this, the METL evaluated by Observer Controllers (OCs) was first quantified, and KCTC data was preprocessed and converted into meaning variables. These were then combined with the quantified METL data and analyzed using regression analysis to determine if METL influences combat outcomes. Following this, to identify which METL elements have a more significant impact on combat outcomes, we used cluster analysis to distinguish between high-performing and under-performing units. Through difference tests, we extracted the critical METL elements and presented them as essential METL components to prioritize in training preparation in the field
