Abstract

Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC) training provides a valuable opportunity for practical experience in a battlefield-like environment, with training results recorded using MILES equipment. The objective of this study is to analyze the factors influencing the outcomes of infantry company offensive operations by examining the big data generated from brigade-level KCTC training results. The focus of this research is on infantry companies. In contrast to previous studies that assumed uniform missions for all infantry companies and analyzed them collectively, this study distinguishes and individually analyzes the missions of each infantry company. To achieve this, location information for each infantry company during brigade-level training was used to ascertain their respective missions. The combat results for each infantry company's mission were defined based on military doctrine, and explanatory variables representing the battlefield situation were created. Regression analysis was then employed to identify the factors affecting combat results. This study not only analyzed the combat results of training units but also considered those of the opposing forces (OPFOR), allowing for a comparative analysis to reveal differences between training units and OPFOR. Consequently, this research derived the factors influencing the combat results of infantry companies in both training units and OPFOR. Moreover, it identified the essential elements for achieving favorable outcomes in offensive operations by training unit infantry companies through comparative analysis, thus yielding valuable implications.
