Abstract
This paper aims to explore the concept of impulse (Impuls) in Adorno’s Philosophy of moral. Adorno develops a theory of moral practice, and the conception of impulse lies at the center of it. Formally, impulse is opposed to reflection as the internal force of the subject, and its content can be understood as an immediate response to the suffering of others. In this respect, the impulse can be seen as a moral-philosophical concept of mimesis. The concept of the impulse shows how the subject’s resistance to injustice and suffering is possible. It is possible because the impulse is not merely a blind power of subject but the crystallization of the historical experiences of negativity and reflection upon it. Consequently, the impulse is the moral- philosophical concept, which corresponds Adorno’s basic thesis, namely the dependence of the subject on the object. It can be said that the impulse is a concept that draws the boundary beyond which the subject would become irrational. It also shows how the reason of higher order is realized.
