프로야구구단의 성적변화 추이와 상대적 전력 비교평가

이 연구는 한국프로야구(KBO) 출범해인 1982년부터 2008년도까지 KBO에서 발행한 기록대백과에 제시된 각 구단별 연평균 경기기록을 이용하였다. 각 구단의 연도별 성적변화에 대한 추이(推移)를 비교하기 위하여 6차 다항함수를 적용하였으며, 구단들의 경기력 차이를 비교하기 위하여 포스트시즌에 진출한 팀과 진출하지못한 팀, 정규리그 우승팀과 준우승팀, 4위와 5위 팀을 구분하여 각 경기기술에 대한 평균비교(t-test)를 하였다. 그리고 각 구단의 공격 및 수비와 관련된 기술영역에 대한 상대적 전력을 비교하기 위하여 수집된 각 경기기록 변인을 동일한 기준으로 비교할 수 있도록 척도동등화 과정을 적용시켜 표준지수를 산출했으며, 산출된 표준지수를 이용하여 야구의 주요기술영역에 대한 각 구단의 상대적 전력을 비교·평가할 수 있는 전력평가지수를 제안하였다. 이 연구의 결과를 종합하면 첫째, 프로야구 창단 후부터 2008년도 현재까지의 각 구단들의 성적순위 상, 중, 하위권의 변화추이는 전반적으로 약 3-5년 주기로 변화되고 있으며 翌年(익년)의 성적순위는 대부분 전년도 성적순위에서 평균적으로 약 3순위 범위 내에서 이루어졌다. 둘째, 포스트시즌 진출에 영향력이 가장 큰 변인 5개를 선정하였을 때 방어율과 세이브(투수력), 출루율과 OPS(타력), 그리고 타점율(득점력)로 압축할 수 있었다. 우승팀과 준우승팀과의 차이는 타력과 관련된 PSN(호타준족)과 타점율에서 1위가 2위보다 다소 높은 수치를 보였으며, 4위 팀은 5위 팀보다 타점율, 장타율, 순장타율 등에서 다소 높은 기록을 보였다. 셋째, 각 구단의 상대적 전력 비교에서는 삼성과 기아가 전체자료에서는 단연히 1-2위를 다투는 팀으로 평가되었으며, 시대별(90년대, 2000년대 전반, 2000년대 후반)로 분류하여 비교한 전력평가에서는 SK과 두산(OB)은 꾸준히 전력이 향상되었으나 KIA와 LG는 점차적으로 하락하였다. 그리고 한화와 롯데는 유사한 패턴으로 중하위권을 유지했으며 삼성은 꾸준히 상위전력을 유지했다. 표준지수를 이용하여 산출한 각 기술영역의 전력평가지수와 승률과의 상관계수에서 투수력이 .657, 타력 .590, 득점력 .547로서 비교적 높은 관련성을 보였고 기동력과수비력은 각각 .264 .144로 비교적 낮은 수치를 보였다. 구단의 전체적인 경기력을 비교하는 종합전력평가지수는 승률과 매우 높은 상관(.881)을 보였으며 이러한 결과는 이 연구에서 제시한 전력평가지수 산출과정에 대한 타당성으로 해석할 수 있겠다.
Abstract
The purposes of this study were 1) to examine the trend and pattern of the annual rankings of each of eight pro-baseball teams, 2) to compare the mean values of each individual skill performances between the teams advanced to post-season and those were not, and between 4th and 5th teams, and between 1st and 2nd teams of the regular season games in each year, and 3) to compare and evaluate the relative performances of team skill domains among the eight teams. The data were collected from the Official Baseball Encyclopedia issued by Korean Pro-Baseball Organization(KBO) every year, starting the year of its foundation(1982) to the latest issue of the Baseball encyclopedia (2008), also referenced to the homepage of KBO. The trend of annual rankings of each team was analyzed by applying 6th polynomial function curve, and the characteristics of the trend was explained in details by describing the pattern of the changes of the annual rankings of each team. The statistical analyses of mean comparison were performed and the individual skills within each team skill domains that deemed to be significant contributors were selected and accordingly explained. In performing the comparison and evaluation of the relative strength and weakness of each team a formula that could transform each individual skills with a different measurement scale and unit into a scale-equivalent variable, called a standard index, was proposed. Then a standard index of each individual skill was multiplied by a correlation coefficient, as a weight, between the original variable and the win-loss ratio in order to create 'an index of relative evaluation of team skill domain'. This index and the sum of the index of all skill domains were used to compare and evaluate the relative team skill performance of each of eight pro-baseball teams in Korea.
