초록

This study examines the effects of control factors (age, gender, education, public assistance status), personal factors (perceived health, depression, cognitive function, housing ownership, type of housing), community factors (the number of people over 65 in a community, neighborhood poverty, the number of social services agencies for older adults, the incidence of elderly abuse) on social isolation among the elderly. Towards this end, this study uses panel data, Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA). The data of 3,831 respondents aged over 65 are used to this analysis by the SPSS 19.0 software. The results of this study are as follows. Lower cognitive function, non-ownership of housing, and housing type result in higher social isolation among respondents. However, community factors results in greater social isolation than personal factors, and are more significantly predictive of social isolation in adults over 65. Lastly, we discuss implications of the findings and offer suggestions for further research.
