Abstract
This article reinterprets Zhu Xi’s concept of Gewu (格物) from an ecological perspective, exploring its potential contributions to addressing modern environmental challenges. While Gewu traditionally focused on investigating the principles of things to achieve moral cultivation, this study expands its scope to recognize the intrinsic value of nature and foster harmonious relationships between humans and the environment. Drawing on Neo-Confucian concepts such as the organic worldview, Tianrenheyi (天人 合一), and Wanwuyiti (萬物一體), the article discusses the philosophical applications of Gewu, particularly its relevance in environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and ecological education. This approach positions Neo-Confucianism as a philosophical framework for modern environmental ethics and sustainable coexistence
