응용행동분석에서의 배경사건과 동기조작 개념에 대한 비교 고찰

응용행동분석에서 선행사건/선행자극이나 후속결과에 영향을 미치는 선행요인으로 배경사건과 동기조작이라는 두 가지 용어가 주목을 받고 있다. 그러나 이 두 용어의 개념과 관계가 관련문헌에서 명확하지 않을 뿐 아니라 다소 혼란스러운 측면이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 두 용어를 여섯 가지 측면(배경, 정의, 유형, 선행사건/선행자극과의 관계, 후속결과와의 관계, 출현시기)에서 살펴보고 비교한 후 결론으로 두 용어의 정의와 관계를 제안해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 배경사건의 정의는 ‘선행사건/선행자극보다 앞서 발생하거나 그와 동시에 발생하여 선행사건/선행자극이나 후속결과에 대한 반응에 영향을 미치는 조건이나 변인’으로 제안한다. 둘째, 동기조작의 정의는 ‘선행사건/선행자극보다 앞서 발생하거나 그와 동시에 발생하여 일시적으로 강화물이나 벌칙의 효과를 변화(증가 또는 감소)시켜서 그 강화물이나 벌칙이 뒤따르는 행동들의 발생가능성을 변화(증가 또는 감소)시키는 조건이나 변인’으로 제안한다. 셋째, 배경사건과 동기조작의 관계는 배경사건에 동기조작이 포함되는 것으로 제안한다.
Abstract
Two terms of setting event and motivating operation are receiving attention as antecedents affecting antecedent events/antecedent stimuli or consequences in applied behavior analysis. In the related literature, however, the concepts of setting event and motivating operation and the relationship between them are not only unclear but also somewhat confusing. Therefore, this study aimed to propose their definitions and relationship as conclusions after reviewing and comparing them in terms of six aspects(background, definition, types, relationship with antecedent events/antecedent stimuli, relationship with consequences, time of appearance). Following were the conclusions of this study. First, the proposed definition of setting event was ‘an condition or variable that occurs prior to or simultaneously with an antecedent event/antecedent stimulus and then influences response to the antecedent event/antecedent stimulus or consequence’. Second, the proposed definition of motivating operation was ‘an condition or variable that occurs prior to or simultaneously with an antecedent event/antecedent stimulus and then temporarily alters(increases or decreases) the effectiveness of a reinforcer or punisher and alters(increases or decreases) the likelihood of behaviors that lead to that reinforcer or punisher’. Third, the proposed relationship between setting event and motivating operation was that setting event includes motivating operation.
