응용행동분석에서의 일반화의 유형과 일반화의 유형별 정의에 대한 고찰

응용행동분석에서는 행동변화뿐만 아니라 행동변화의 일반화에도 높은 관심을 둔다. 왜냐하면 행동변화가 일반화되지 않는다면 그 행동변화는 의미가 없을 수 있기 때문이다. 하지만 관련문헌을 보면 일반화의 유형과 일반화의 유형별 정의에서 일관성이 다소 결여되어 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 관련문헌들을 살펴보고 논의한 후 결론으로 일반화의 유형과 일반화의 유형별 정의를 제안해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일반화의 유형은 자극일반화와 반응일반화의 두 가지 유형으로 분류할 것을 제안한다. 둘째, 자극일반화는 ‘특정 자극(사람, 지시, 자료, 장소)이 있을 때 어떤 반응이 강화를 받았을 경우, 유사하지만 다른 자극들에 의해 그 반응이 촉발될 수 있는 것’으로 정의하고 반응일반화는 ‘어떤 자극이 있을 때 특정 반응이 강화를 받았을 경우, 그 자극에 의해 유사하지만 다른 반응들이 촉발될 수 있는 것’으로 정의할 것을 제안한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 제안을 잠정적 결론으로 제시하였는데 그 이유는 합의가 필요한 쟁점들이 다수 있는 것으로 나타났기 때문이다. 따라서 향후 일반화의 유형과 일반화의 유형별 정의에 대한 확고한 결론을 도출하기 위해 합의가 필요한 쟁점들을 중심으로 몇 가지 제언을 제시하였다.
Abstract
In applied behavior analysis, there is a great deal of attention toward not only behavior change but also generalization of behavior change. The reason is that if behavior change is not generalized, the behavior change could be meaningless. However, there is a lack of consistency among the types of generalization and the definition for each type of generalization which have been presented by related literature. Therefore, this study aimed to propose the types of generalization and the definition for each type of generalization as conclusions after reviewing and discussing those in the related literature. Following were the conclusions of this study. First, the proposed types of generalization were stimulus generalization and response generalization. Second, the proposed definition for stimulus generalization was ‘the fact that when a response is reinforced in the presence of a specific stimulus (person, instruction, material, setting), the response may be evoked by other similar but different stimuli’ and the proposed definition for response generalization was ‘the fact that when a specific response is reinforced in the presence of a stimulus, other similar but different responses may be evoked by the stimulus’. However these were presented as tentative conclusions because it appeared that there were many issues which should reach consensus. Therefore, presented were several suggestions focusing on the issues which need to reach consensus in order to draw firm conclusions on the types of generalization and the definition for each type of generalization.
