이 연구는 일본 도쿄서적과 이쿠호샤 발행의 중학교 사회 교과서 국제정치 단원 화보를 비교하여 교과서에서 드러난 시각의 정치를 검토하고자 하였다. 이 연구는 교과서의 사진 또는 삽화 등이 교과서가 지향하는 정치적 입장과 깊은 관련이 있다고 보고, 그것이 정치 공동체의 집단 기억과 감정을 어떻게 생산, 전달, 확대하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 두 교과서의 단원 도입, 국가와 영토, UN과 국제사회, 세계평화 등에서 활용되는 화보는 교과서가 추구하는 정치적 입장을 분명하게 드러내면서 본문 내용을 지지하고 있었다. 도쿄서적은 지구사회가 직면한 전 지구적 문제 해결에 초점을 맞추면서 국제주의 입장을 화보에 노정하고 있지만, 이쿠호샤는 국제사회가 일본이 진출하고 활약해야 될 무대로 파악하며, 그 시각적 재현물에서도 이 점을 강조하는 국가주의 입장을 강하게 드러내고 있었다.
Abstract
This comparative study focuses on the photos and pictorials used in the International Politics sections in the middle school social textbooks published by Tokyo Shoseki and Ikuhosha, which show clear ideological differences. The main purpose of this study is to prove how the photos and pictorials can be used to reveal the political stance of the two textbooks. It is clear that the photos and pictorials used in the textbooks of Tokyo Shoseki support the textbook's internationalist position, while those used by Ikuhosha associate with a more nationalist and politically realist position. On the other hand, the two textbooks do share the same collective memories and emotions in the discourse on Japan’s territorial dispute with its neighboring states, as well as being the victim state of atomic bombs. Overall, the photos and pictorials used in the textbooks reinforce the political stance of each textbook by interacting with the texts and contents.
