한국의 대(對)인도 FDI가 양국 간 산업 내 무역에 미친 영향 분석

본 연구는 1991-2012년간의 13개 산업에 대하여 한국의 대(對)인도 직접투자와 수출입 자료를 활용하여 FDI가 산업 내 무역에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 한국의 대(對)인도 무역은 한국의 대(對)인도 FDI와 같은 추세를 보이고 있다는 것을 발견하였다. 더욱이 한국의 대(對)인도 FDI는 한국의 대(對)인도 수출이 많은 부분에 집중되고 있으며, 특히 최근에 집중적으로 발생하는 것을 알게 되었다. 둘째, 산업 내 무역지수를 추정한 결과, 한국의 대(對)인도 수출입 및 FDI가 크게 증가하는 기간인 2003년 이후에 오히려 산업 내 무역지수는 감소하는 것을 발견하였다. 하지만 2010년 이후 증가하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 13개 산업을 대상으로 FDI와 산업 내 무역 간의 관계를 분석한 결과, FDI가 산업 내 무역과는 역(-)의 관계가 있다는 점을 발견하였다. 즉 한국의 대(對)인도 FDI의 증가는 대(對)인도 산업 내 무역을 오히려 감소시키고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본고는 앞으로 FDI가 산업 내 무역을 증가시키기 위해서는 양자 간 무역을 확대시키는 제도가 마련되어야 한다는 정책적 시사점을 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzes how FDI affects on intra-industry trade(IIT) using the data of FDI and trade in the 13 industries between Korea and India during 1991-2012. The study finds that Korea's trade with India has a similar trend to that of FDI which has increased sharply since 2003. Moreover, FDI is focused on the sectors that have relatively large amount of export from Korea to India. Second, IIT has increased since 2003 when the trade and FDI have increased sharply while they have a trend of decreasing since 2003. Third, the result of analyzing the relationship between FDI and IIT with panel data for 13 industries shows that FDI is negatively related with IIT. It implies that FDI leads to reduce the trade between Korea and India. Thus, this study gives an implication that the political supports needs in order to increase the intra-industry trade related to FDI between Korea and India.
