자필적 예술로서 무용작품의 정체성 연구 －J. 마골리스의 예술론과 <궁중학무>를 중심으로－

본고에서는 조셉 마골리스(Joseph Margolis)의 예술론을 바탕으로 무용작품의 정체성을 설명하고자 한다. 마골리스에 따르면 예술작품과 예술작품을 만드는 재료로서 기능할 수 있는 물리적 대상 사이에 분명한 차이가 존재한다. 첫째, 예술은 ‘문화적 존재자’이고 그 자체로 개별자이다. 둘째, 예술작품은 ‘물리적 구현’과 ‘문화적 창발’의 존재자이다. 의도적 속성들이 물리적 속성으로 내부화되거나 귀화되어 불가분적 용해성을 가지며 물리적 술어로 환원될 수 없는 복잡한 성격을 갖는다. 마골리스는 무용이 자필적 영역에 있는 근거로 ‘자연적 표현성’을 든다. 자연적 표현성은 연속적인 삶에 축적된 훈련을 통해 자신의 신체를 사용함으로써, 무의식적으로 산출되어지는 본질적으로 표현적인 자세와 동작을 사용하는 것이다. 이것은 무용을 자필적으로 만든다. 그리고 공연들 간의 유사성은 편의상 ‘메가유형’을 도입하여 설명할 수 있다. 징표들은 시와 시의 번역처럼 서로 옹호가능하게 귀속될 수 있는 대안적이거나 심지어 반대되는 디자인의 범위에서 어떤 디자인을 적절하게 공유할 때 동일한 메가유형에 속한다. 마골리스의 이론을 <궁중학무>에 대입할 때 이 작품은 ‘고고한 여유로움’을 지향적 속성으로 갖는다. 전통적 좌식문화에서 비롯된 대지지향적 속성과 ‘호흡’ 원리는 이 춤의 ‘자연적 표현성’이다. 역사 속에 존재하는 홀기들은 공연들을 동일한 ‘메가유형’으로 동일화․개체화한다. 무용에서 움직임은 물리적으로 구현되는 속성과는 다른 이질적인 속성을 ‘소유’하고 자연적 표현성을 가지므로 자필적 범주에 있다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 논의가 다양한 예술에도 적용․해석되길 바란다.
Abstract
This study is in order to explain identity of dance works based on Joseph Margolis's art theory. According to Margolis, there is an ontological difference between art work and physical medium. The first, art is a 'cultural entity' and individual itself.. The second is that artworks are entities of 'physical embodiment' and 'cultural emergence.' Intentional property is internalized or is naturalized to physical property, so it has solubility by entireties and complicated character not to be restored to physical predicate. Dance has 'natural expressiveness.' It means that a dancer works with the naturally expressive use of positions and movements generated by that person's use of his/her own body through the accumulated grooming of a continuous life. It makes dance autographic. 'megatype' is suggested for the similarity between performances. If tokens condignly share certain designs in the design sphere, such as connection of a poem and interpretation of the poem, they will belong to the same megatype. From this point of view, Intentional property of is <Court Hakmoo>. The movement method is called 'Hoheup(breath).' It is 'natural expressiveness' of <Court Hakmoo>. Each notation of this work makes performances of those days impute to instances of the same megatype. Tokens linked in notation become identity and individuation to each notation. I uncovered that dance as art possesses different properties from the physically embodied and has natural expressiveness. Therefore, dance is located in the autographic category. I hope this discussion can be applied and analyzed in other arts.
