Abstract

This study aims to investigate the props and dance moves of Komagaku-originated Shinsoriko out of all the Japanese court dances called ‘Bugku’. Shinsoriko is a Baekje-styled dance that the dancer performs wearing a mask called ‘Zomen’and holding a dance tool called ‘Suhae’. Suhae seems to have a function of defeating evil things in consideration of the start and motif of this dance. When it comes to the performance of Shinsoriko, different dancers show up on the stage in sequence after the prelude played with Komabue, Hichiriki and percussion instruments, and various dance moves are used, including ‘Husegai’ which is the basic dance move of Shinsoriko. At this point, this study intends to consider its association with a Korea traditional dance performance called ‘Tallolli’in terms of dance moves. When the basic dance moves of Shinsoriko are compared with those of Tallolli, Kakiawase of Shinoriko is quite similar to Yeodagi and Gopssawi of Tallolli. Besides, Kirori or Miru of Shinsoriko, which is a dance move using the head, resembles Gogaejabi of Tallolli. As a matter of course, such similar dance moves may be a coincidence. However, Baekje music and instrumental music introduced to Japan from Korea existed during the same period both in Korea and Japan. That is, it can be judged that the instrumental music of Baekje and Baekje music of Korea were linked to Komagaku, Yangju Byeolsandae Nori of Japan, including Shinsoriko.
