본 연구의 목적은 IB PYP 프로그램을 기반으로 사고력 발달을 촉진하는 영어 창의적 글쓰기지도 모형의 효과를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 초등학교 6학년 72명을 대상으로 주 3회, 6주동안 IB PYP 기반 수업을 실시하고, 활동 후 설문조사를 통해 활동의 효과를 분석하였고 그 결과, IB PYP 기반 영어 창의적 글쓰기 과제가 학습자의 창의적 사고력 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미친것으로 나타났다. 이는 창의적 사고 기능 (유창성, 독창성, 정교성, 유연성)을 향상시킬 수 있는다양한 주제를 통해 학습자들은 자신의 생각과 느낌을 글로 표현함으로써 창의성을 계발할 수있었음을 보여주었다. 또한 브레인스토밍 활동에 대한 학습자들의 인식 조사 결과, 생각 정리와아이디어 발상 측면에서 매우 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 특히 브레인스토밍 활동의 학습 방식에대해서는 대부분의 학습자가 전체 수업 방식에 대한 선호도가 높은 것으로 나타났으며. 이는 어휘력과 아이디어의 약점을 보완하는 데 기여했으며 학생들은 자신과 다른 의견을 존중하고 수용하는법을 배울 수 있었던 점에서 가치 있다고 볼 수 있다. 이는 그룹 환경에서 창의적인 글쓰기 과제에참여하는 것을 선호하는 경향에서도 유사하게 관찰된다. 마지막으로, 과학-영어 통합 수업은 학생들이 생각하지 못했던 흥미로운 과학적 상황을 제공한다는 점에서 영어 작문 능력을 향상시키는데 도움이 되었음을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과들은 '포용적이고 창의적이며 능동적인 인재'를 양성하고 초연결 사회가 요구하는 초학제적 역량을 충족하고자 하는 2022 개정 교육과정의 목표에 부합하는 IB PYP 기반 영어 창의적 글쓰기 과제를 성공적으로 수행하기 위한 통찰력을 제공하는데 기여할수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a model of creative English writing instruction that promotes thinking development based on the IB PYP program. In doing so, we conducted IB PYP-based lessons for 72 sixth graders three times a week for six weeks, and analyzed the effectiveness of the activities through a post-activity survey. The results suggest that the IB PYP-based English creative writing tasks had a positive effect on the development of learners' creative thinking skills. Various topics that may enhance the creative thinking functions (fluency, originality, elaboration, and flexibility) helped learners to develop their creativity by expressing their thoughts and feelings in writing. It is also noted that the learners' perceptions of the brainstorming activity were found to be highly effective in terms of organizing their thoughts and generating ideas. In particular, most learners exhibited a strong preference for the whole-class activity in terms of the learning style for the brainstorming activity. This may contribute to compensating for each other's weaknesses in vocabulary and ideas. Furthermore, they learned to respect and accept opinions that differed from their own. This is similarly observed in their preference for engaging in creative writing tasks within group settings. Finally, the integrated science-English class helped them enhance their English writing skills in that it provided interesting scientific situations that they hadn't thought about before, which made them interested in writing. These all may provide insights into facilitating successful IB PYP-based English creative writing tasks aligned with the goals of the 2022 Revised Curriculum, aiming to cultivate "inclusive, creative, and proactive individuals" and meet the transdisciplinary competencies demanded by a hyper-connected society.
