Abstract

A Study of Chinese Idioms Originated from SHIJING Min, Byung-sam "SHIJING" is the first poetical works in the history of Chinese literature which was written in Chinese characters. It was used as a textbook in the Confucianists. The language of Chinese literature is well made of characterized languages and is a normative language based on the Chinese common language. The dissemination of "SHIJING" greatly influenced the unification and development of Chinese characterized languages.The Chinese idioms have been normalized in a long period of time. They have fixed forms and organizations with specific meanings. They have a function of specific words and phrases in the writings. In the early time, well refined verses in the "SHIJING" became idioms because they had a strong power of expression. They are also used as a tool of emotional expression in the modern Chinese.This study arranged and analyzed the idiom originated from the "SHIJING". It drew the 676 idioms originated from the "SHIJING" and related literature, and classified their original forms and transformations. The idioms having changed meanings in the period of time is also classified. Furthermore, it arranged the 55 Korean idioms originated from the "SHIJING".This study identified the effects of "SHIJING" on the modern Chinese and Korean. It helped the exact use of idioms on the use of Chinese words. Also, the results of this study can be utilized as the useful data for the study of Korean and Chinese idioms.
