This paper examines the two-pattern accent system of the Gangwon-do dialect based on Japanese Accentology. The objective of this paper is to describe the accent systems and their mechanisms of a two-pattern accent system. I will discuss on the pattern accent system in this paper found in this areas, and report on data obtained during field work there. An N-pattern accent system, only N oppositions exist irrespective of the length of the accentual units (number of moras or syllables), accentual opposition do not increase more than a limited number designated by each system. ‘N’ is one, two, or three, depending on the dialect. The two-pattern accent system proposed in this paper in which only three oppositions exist irrespective of the length of the accentual units,can be found in Yoengwol-gun. I will discuss phenomena,such as the accents of compound words,which have not yet considered.
