『겐지모노가타리』공간표현과 공간인식-문학・회화・건축자료를 중심으로-

Abstract

The purpose of this study is analyzing Japanese people's patterns in unique perception of space by analyzing and comparing with various media the expressions of space which were used in 'Genjimonogatari', a representative classic in the ancient Japanese Heian era. This study was carried out, based on the piece. In particular, in this study, I tried to make a new paradigm for literature and the study of literature by using a wide variety of resources such as paintings, architectures, commentaries, and Korean translations of the piece, etc, away from the conventional methodology whose focus has been on the study of literature simply based on letters(characters). In this study, I preferentially excerpted, from a wide variety of spatial expressions in 'Genjimonogatari', ①parts of which explanations are obscure and not concrete, ②parts on which various different opinions exist in commentaries, and ③parts of which interpretive errs exist. The parts are as follows; a scene of Genji confronting Wakamurasaki's grandmother in the volume of Wakamurasaki and a scene of Yugiri peeping at Genji and Damakazra in the volume of Nowaki, etc. As a result of the study, by simultaneously reviewing Korean commentaries on the piece as well as visual materials such as Japanese paintings and architectures, we can now clearly understand and interpret the overall meanings of the spatial expressions in 'Genjimonogatari', of which meanings had been obscure. Therefore, the obscure parts of spatial expressions and errs have been understood. We can accurately understand unique Japanese spatial awareness, the differences between Korean and Japanese spatial awareness being clearly identified by reviewing 'Genjimonogatari', compared to Korean commentaries. In addition, problems, which had been overlooked, with translating Japanese spatial expressions into Korean were raised.
