本稿の目的は、≪醜聞≫の構成と演出、そして人物造形を総合的に考察し、主題と作品の意義を明らかにしようとした点にある。考察の結果を要約すると以下の通りである。第一に、製作動機に関してであるが、既存の動機に加え、彼の映画に対して軽薄な批評を日常的に行ったジャーナリズムと周辺のものとマスコミの批評に振り回されがちな観客の態度を警戒しようとしたという点なども製作の動機の契機として考慮しなければならないだろう。第二に、演出についてであるが、特に『醜聞』のカメラワークと編集は、メディアの本質と登場人物の心理を視覚的に表現する重要な要素として機能していることが確認できた。最後に「テーマの破綻」に関する問題であるが、黒澤は前半では「ジャーナリズムの批判」を、後半では「人間の善悪の問題」を探求し、特に絶頂の部分と結末の部分ではこの二つのテーマを統合しようとするシナリオ作法を意図が明確に見受けられる。これに加えて、黒沢の人物造形をも主題の統合に寄与する。
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the significance of the theme and the work by thoroughly examining the composition, direction, and character development in The Chase. The findings of this analysis are summarized as follows. First, regarding the motivation for production, it appears that Kurosawa sought to critique both journalism—characterized by its superficial criticism of his films—and the audience’s tendency to accept such media criticism uncritically. Second, in terms of direction, the cinematography and editing techniques in The Troubles play a crucial role in visually portraying the essence of the media and the psychological depth of the characters. Lastly, concerning the “breakdown of the subject,” Kurosawa seems to have crafted a scenario that integrates two overarching themes. While the first half of the film addresses “the problem of human good and evil,” the climax and ending converge these ideas into a unified exploration of the human condition.
