‘이 시대’ 방언 조사 연구의 이론과 실제

Abstract

This paper was written in order to clarify a desirable method of dialectal investigation and research for Gyeongnam dialect in ‘these times.’ The reason why the author used an expression ‘these times’ is due to my desperate feeling for the rapid disappearance of dialects with the advent of industralization. The author believes that the dialectal investigation and research should be made on two stages; one is of oral utterances, the other is of words, phonemes, and grammars. The author’s opinion of the former part of the subject is discussed in the second chapter. He suggested that what’s the most urgent was to record and store oral utterances of good quality before the complete disappearance of traditional dialects. Moreover he pointed out the profit from the investigation of oral utterances by complementary questionnaires which refer to the existing questionnaires published in the National Academy of the Korean Language(2006), and maintaining that collected dialectal materials should be safely stored in digital style. Additionally he illustrated some examples of grammar, and phonemes, and words, which might have not investigated eternally but for the investigation of oral utterances. The author’s opinion of the latter part of the subject is discussed in the third chapter. He emphasized that the investigation points should be downsized to as narrow as myeon unit possible, not si or gun. He explained its reason to take examples of symbolic differences from myeon or small village to myeon or small village in three regions of Sancheong, Changwon, and Changnyeong with additive comments. Contrary to investigating dialectal materials, he could not make special discuss what the lexical, phonological, and grammatical research should be made in these times. He rather stressed the necessity of review and re-illumination what has been described but we overlooked in the precedent works. And he gave an hint that we should always develop new subjects from materials which exist as usual but we likely to pass by, unless we should cautiously watch them. For its explanation, he summarized some research subjects which have interested the author, and showed some lines of reasoning concerning to ‘ieong’ (straw thatch) and ‘sseogeunsae’(rotten straw thatch) which he recently studies.
