Abstract

The word Khi: Being analyzed as a linguistic-oriented factor, and a reflection of Thai people’s way of thinking, belief, and ingenious aspects. The author classified the word khi into two categories. Firstly, it was analyzed grammatically as a way in building a word. Secondly, it was analyzed as phrases and idioms that reflecting the way of living of the Thais, thinking path, beliefs, and cultural values in various ways. Khi is classified as an impolite vocabulary. It is likely impolite when someone speaking out such word. We may think that the one who speaks it up is rude and vulgar or dirty, but in fact the word khi can be understood emotionally in different situations. As a matter of fact when we do as serious consideration we will find that khi is a Thai common wording which has been used in the Thai society for a long time as it is used voluminous compound words in the Thai language. It can be found in similes, proverbs, teaching text, fables and tales, puzzle words and etc. The author, therefore, would like to present the work khi in general learning in the way of linguistic analyze and genuine meaning and its usage in the society in order to lead to a correct and clear understanding that reflecting to the way of Thai thinking, belief, values, inherent aspects and culture. It is also useful for foreigners to learn how to use this word appropriately and effectively in communicating or socialize with the Thais. The powerful and effective language usage is essential mean to link the idea and imagination between the data sender and receiver of different month tongues. It is charming for someone to understand and know to use correct wordings in a foreign language in a different culture. “Language is powerful in creating feelings, imaginations and representing idea in society in general.”
