서구중심주의와 기독교: 기독교 철학과 선교사

본 글은 근대 서구인의 타자를 바라보는 시각으로서, 그리고 오늘날 서구인의 물론이요 서구인의 타자였던 비서구인에게까지 일부 내재되어 있는 서구중심주의의 근원을 기독교 철학에서 찾고, 미약하나마 그 극복 방안을 제시하는 데 목적을 두고 작성되었다. 이를 위해 글의 전반부에서는 서구중심주의 논리와 기독교 철학 논리 간의 연관성을 분석하였으며, 후반부에서는 이에 대한 실증적 예로서 한국의 선교 역사를 간략하게 분석해 보았다. 그리고 결론 부분에서는 서구중심주의와 기독교 철학에 대한 비판적 접근을 통해 오늘날 서구중심주의적 시각을 극복하기 위한 방안을 철학적·당위적 수준에서 제시해보았다.
Abstract
As the respect of seeing ‘the other’ of the modern westerners, this article has the purpose in order to both find out the origin of Eurocentrism existing within some non-westerners who is ‘the other’ of the westerners as well as westerners, through Christian philosophy and suggest the ways to solve Eurocentrism even though it is feeble. Therefore, the forward part of this article analyzes the logical relation between Eurocentrism and Christian philosophy and the latter part, as the empirical example, makes an analysis of the history of Korean missionary work briefly. In conclusion, this article gives the solution in order to overcome the point of view of Eurocentrism at the level of philosophy and what should be through the critical approach to both Eurocentrism and Christian philosophy.
