통일 이후 확산된 독일의 외국인혐오증 현상, 즉 제노포비아 현상은 독일통일에서 비롯된 현재적인 경제위기 문제와 깊은 연관을 맺고 있다. 특히 냉전체제의 붕괴 이후 동유럽 등지로부터 난민 및 망명자들의 급증은 현지주민들의 경제적, 정치적, 사회적, 문화적 안정에 대한 위기의식을 증가시켰다고 할 수 있다. 이로 인해 주민들 중의 일부가 망명자들이나 외국인들에 대한 적대감을 유발시키는 선동에 매료되는 결과를 초래하고 있다. 아울러 독일의 외국인혐오증 현상은 현대의 서구세계뿐만 아니라 기타 지역의 선진국들에서도 얼마든지 일어날 수 있고 또 일반화될 수 있는 현상이라는 데서 그 문제의 심각성이 있다. 다시 말해서 선진 산업국가로 발돋움하는 오늘날의 한국에서도 얼마든지 대두될 수 있는 현상이라고 평가되어진다. 따라서 독일의 제노포비아 현상은 우리 한국사회에도 시사하는 바가 적지 않다고 하겠다.
Abstract
The spread of Xenophobia in Germany after its unification, has its root in the economic crisis that faces the country. The end of the Cold War has brought refugees from all over the eastern Europe countries and in the minds of Germans rose the insecurity about the political, economic, social and cultural future of their land. This phenomenon has lead to the hostility expressed by some Germans towards the expatriates. The problem lies in the fact that xenophobia observed in Germany can occur anywhere in the developed world, and Korea, a developing nation, is not an exception. Therefore, a close examination of xenophobia in Germany will be highly beneficial to studying the korean society as well.
