제2차 바티칸 공의회의 성령론적 전망, 그 계승과 과제들: 아시아 복음화의 맥락에서

제2차 바티칸 공의회는 ‘성취론(완성론)’적 관점의 선교관을 제시하는데, 사실 이는 공의회의 성령론적 전망에 연결되어 있다. 이러한 제2차 바티칸 공의회의 성령론적 전망은 이후 『현대의 복음 선교』, 『생명을 주시는 주님』, 『교회의 선교 사명』, 『대화와 선포』, 『제삼천년기』 등 교회 교도권의 문헌들에 의해 계승되면서, ‘성령은 복음화의 주역(Spiritus Sanctus primas agens in missione)’으로 교회의 사명을 인도하심이 일관성 있게 제시되었다. 그리고 프란치스코 교황은 2013년 회칙 『복음의 기쁨』을 통해 ‘성령으로 충만한 복음 선포’ 개념을 강조하고, 복음 선포자의 ‘담대함(παρρησία)’을 중요한 요소로 제시한다. 그리고 이러한 예언자적 복음 선포 활동을 그리스도교 신앙의 신비적 측면에서 수렴하고자 시도한다. 이처럼 제2차 바티칸 공의회에서 제시된 성령론적 전망을 복음화의 관점에서 계승하고 발전시키는 것은 특별히 아시아에서 매우 중요한 과제인데, 성령께서 지금 아시아 대륙에서 신비로이 활동하시며 새로운 지평과 가능성들을 열어주시는 까닭이다. 요한 바오로 2세는 1999년 교황 권고 『아시아 교회』를 통해, 교회는 예수님의 얼굴이 아시아에서 제시될 수 있는 새롭고 놀라운 방법을 찾아야 함을 강조하며, 이를 위해 하나의 ‘기억을 일깨우는 교육학’을 제시한다. 그러므로 아시아 복음화에서 ‘대화와 선포’의 방법론은 매우 중요하고 효과적이다. 이제 아시아 교회는 근본주의와 상대주의의 도전에 올바르게 대응해야 하며, 또한 오늘날의 생태 위기 속에서 아시아 신학적 성찰을 통해 새로운 성령론적 전망을 제시해야 한다. 그리고 ‘이주와 통합’의 문제, 불법 이주 속에 발생하는 인간 존엄성의 침해 등의 문제에 직면해서도 복음적인 대응을 위해 노력해야 한다. 그런데 지구의 생태 위기나 불법 이주를 통한 인간 존엄성 침해의 문제 뒤에는 사회적 불평등의 문제가 자리하기에, 이는 결국 사회적 정의 문제와 연결되며, 교회의 예언자적 소명을 다시 일깨워준다. 이처럼 아시아의 상황 속에서 현실의 문제와 도전에 복음적으로 대응함에 있어, 우리는 성령의 인도를 받아 한편으로 예언자적이어야 하며, 다른 한편으로 신비적이어야 한다. 그리스도교 전통 안에 자리한 신비사상에 대한 심도 있는 성찰과 재발견은 교회의 예언자적 소명과 연결되어, 아시아 교회와 세계 교회의 ‘새로운 복음화’ 작업에 매우 의미 있는 기여를 하게 될 것이다.
Abstract
The Second Vatican Council presents a missiological vision based on the ‘fulfillment theory’, which in turn is connected with the pneumatological perspective of the Council. It is this pneumatological perspective of the Second Vatican Council that has been succeeded by other post-Conciliar, magisterial documents of the Church such as Evangelii Nuntiandi, Dominum et Vivificantem, Redemptoris Missio, Dialogue and Proclamation, Tertio Millennio Adveniente, and so on. Indeed, these documents consistently present the concept of ‘the Holy Spirit as the primary agent of mission’ of the Church. In a similar vein, Pope Francis emphasizes the concept of ‘Spirit-filled evangelization’ and ‘the boldness(παρρησία)’ of the evangelizer in his apostolic exhortation The Joy of the Gospel(2013). The Pontiff also tries to connect this prophetic activity of proclaiming the Gospel to the mystical dimension of the Christian faith. It is particularly important to succeed and develop this pneumatological dimension of the Second Vatican Council in the context of evangelization in the continent of Asia, where we can find the mysterious activity of the Holy Spirit opening up new horizons and a myriad of possibilities. This is why Pope John Paul II, in his apostolic exhortation Ecclesia in Asia(1999), stresses that the Church must be open to the new and surprising ways in which the face of Jesus might be presented in Asia and recommends ‘an evocative pedagogy’ for this to bear fruit. Therefore, the methodological way of ‘dialogue and proclamation’ is instrumental and effective for evangelization in Asia. Today, the Church in Asia is called to respond properly to the challenges of fundamentalism and relativism, and present a new pneumatological perspective in the face of the ecological crisis on earth by continuing an Asian theological reflection. Furthermore, the Asian Church has to respond evangelically to the problem of ‘migration and integration’, while also addressing the issue of deterioration of human dignity in the process of illegal migration. And since in the background of the ecological crisis and the deterioration of human dignity lies the problem of social inequality, such efforts will inevitably lead us to the question of social justice, thus requiring us to be aware once again of the prophetic mission of the Church. In responding evangelically to the problems and challenges in Asia, we all have to be prophets and mystics under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A rediscovery of the mysticism in the Christian tradition and a profound reflection upon it should always be connected with this prophetic mission of the Church, as this integration will contribute greatly to the mission of ‘new evangelization’ for both the Asian and the universal Church.
