Abstract
Akutagawa reserved the conclusion of his novel as follow: < Will I help her wake up her dream, or will I let her keep her illusional dream like a western legend forever ?> The author described Kinka who innocently bit seeds of watermelon in the end. What is his intention not to disclose her disease up to the end? He intended to prevent Kinka from falling into depression, hoping a natural and innocent life beyond vulgarity, opposition and ugly self-interest of this society. The author takes a pity on Kinka in this work.
