This paper aims to reveal the similarities and differences between languagepolicy space of Switzerland and that of Belgium by applying the theory ofStructural Approach to Language Policy Spaces (SALPS). Swiss and Belgian language policy space differ from each other structurally. The representative difference is that there exists the background of languageideology of nationalism in the latter, when it is absent in the former. With thisdifference, there arises a representative difference of relationship : it issystematically shown that while Switzerland maintains the linguistic peace dueto the existence of certain language ideologies such as the territoriality and theprinciple of subsidiarity, Belgium suffers the significant lingusitic conflict as anarrow language practice.
