포스트휴먼 기호자본주의 시대의 ‘인간’의 의미에 대한 고찰: 경쟁이 아닌 상호의존적 협력의 존재

과학기술의 힘으로 인간의 생물학적 한계를 극복하고, 인간 고유의 의식과 무의식적 알고리즘까지도 디지털 정보로 환원하려는 포스트휴먼의 기호자본주의 시대는 인간의 노동마저도 ‘네트워크화된 노동’, 즉 ‘인지노동’으로 바꾸어 놓았다. 그에 따라 이 시대의 인지노동은 인간의 ‘영혼’까지도 노동하도록 강제하면서, 인간 고유의 특성이라 여겨져 왔던 ‘언어, 정서, 소통, 창의성, 상상력’마저도 자본주의적 가치의 도구로 전락시키고 있다. 또한 오늘날 소비자본주의의 무한경쟁 시스템 안에서 인간은 자신의 존재 근거를 상실한 체, 자아실현과 행복마저도 경쟁 구조 속에서 오직 승자가 되기 위한 투쟁으로 변질되었다. 그 결과 상위 1%에 들지 못하는 99%의 패자들은 권태, 무의미함, 혐오, 우울감 등이 삶을 지배하는 “테디움 비테”의 상황에 빠지고 말았다. 이것은 오늘날 우리 사회에 우울증이라는 ‘사회병리적 신드롬’으로 확산되고 있다. 기호자본주의가 만들어내는 이러한 사회적 병리는 무한경쟁과 추격주의에서 벗어나지 않는 한 결코 사라지지 않는다. 서로에 대한 적대감을 이용하는 ‘경쟁’은 결코 성공이 될 수 없으며, 오히려 사회를 해체하는 적이기 때문이다. 경쟁이 아닌 ‘협력’이야말로 새로운 대안을 창출할 수 있는 창조성의 영혼이며, 연대와 협력의 근거가 되는 ‘공감’은 나의 입장에서 타인을 바라보는 연민이 아니라, 타인의 입장에서 타인의 아픔을 바라보며 이해하는 것이다. 이러한 “공감에 기반을 둔 연대”, 즉 협력은 자아의 가치를 잃어버린 기호자본주의 시대에 우리가 다시 회복해야 할 인간의 존재 의미가 되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The posthuman semiocapitalism, which has tried to surpass the biological limitations of human being with techno-scientific innovations and to transmute the human consciousness and the unconscious algorithms into digital information, has transformed human labour into networked labor, that is, cognitive labor. Cognitive labour today has coerced even human souls into work and has degraded the uniquely human features, such as language, emotion, communication, creativity, and even imagination, into just tools of capitalistic values. In such a consumer-capitalist system of infinite competition, human beings lost their foundation of being and its meaning, and their self-realization and happiness thus has turned into a struggle to be the winner from the competition. As a result, the alienated losers of 99% from the top-tier of 1% fall into the state of tedium vitae, in which weariness, meaninglessness, hatred, depression and so on prevail over in their lives. This has led to the state of the depressive mind as one of the sociopathological syndromes in our society. Such social pathologies generated from semiocapitalism would not go away unless one breaks away from the structure of infinite competition and the populism chasing the tails of the so-called winner. Competition based upon the binary division of winner/loser and the mutual hatred cannot lead to success in its real meaning but rather drive into a dissolution of society, for it motivates us to see competitors as enemies. What we need to overcome these social pathologies is cooperation, rather than competition, that will be the soul of creativity and thus that can generate a new alternative. Also our compassion, which is the basis of solidarity and cooperation, should be based upon empathy seeing the pains of others from the perspective of the others themselves, not sympathy understanding the other from my point of view Such an empathetic coalition or cooperation should be the value one seeks for as the meaning of human being that one should recover from the semiocapitalist society, in which one loses one’s way to the value for oneself.
