본고의 목적은 한일회담 관련 외교문서 공개 이후 2006년부터 2025년까지의 시기를 중심으로 한일회담 연구사를 정리하고 그 특징을 검토해 보는 것이다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 2006년~2015년 시기의 한일회담 연구는 한일회담 관련 외교문서 공개, 연구자료집 출간, 연구 지원 사업을 통해 연구 내용의 정치화(精緻化), 연구 주제의 다양화, 연구 결과의 심화 등 양적·질적으로 활성화되었다. 둘째, 2016년~2025년 시기의 한일회담 연구는 이전 시기에 비해 연구 성과와 연구 지원이 축소되는 경향이 나타나면서 사양화의 길로 접어들었다. 향후 한일회담 연구의 활성화를 위해서는 새로운 분석틀을 통한 연구, 일본 정부 공개 문서 중 아직 번역·출간되지 않은 자료들에 대한 작업, 일본 정부의 부분 공개·미공개 자료의 전면 공개, 공공기관의 연구 지원 사업이 필요하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine and summarize the history of research on the Korea–Japan Talks, focusing on the period from 2006 to 2025, following the release of the diplomatic documents related to the Korea–Japan Talks. First, the period from 2006 to 2015 saw significant revitalization in research. This was driven by the release of diplomatic documents, the publication of research compilations, and research support programs. These factors led to greater empirical grounding in research content, diversification of research topics, and deeper research outcomes. Second, the period from 2016 to 2025 showed a tendency toward reduced research output and support compared to the previous period, leading to a decline. To revitalize future research on the Korea–Japan Talks, it is necessary to establish new analytical frameworks, conduct studies on Japanese government documents that have not yet been translated, promote the full disclosure of Japan’s diplomatic records, and strengthen research support programs provided by public institutions.
