Very few comparative studies of cylinder type earthenware dating between the Late Yayoi and Early Kofun periods had previously been conducted. However, with an increase in the number of cylinder type earthenware excavated during archaeological surveys, this has made it possible to reassess the nature of the excavated sites, in addition to evaluating patterns of change. Under such circumstances, upon comparing the cylinder type earthenware found in Japan and South Korea, a shift to a Japanese style is evident; there is a high possibility that differences in usage sites within both regions may be a factor that led to the transformation of form to a Japanese style of cylinder type earthenware.
Abstract
