신선사상 기원설에 대한 비판적 검토 －‘황제동도설’을 중심으로－

오늘날 축적된 도교학의 지식으로 이능화가 『조선도교사』에서 제기한 한국도교 자생설을 본격적으로 검토하고자 하는 것이 이 논문의 목적이다. 이능화가 한국도교 자생설을 주장한 이면에는 각종 국내외 도교문헌을 근거로 제시한 것이며, 민족담론의 형태로 일제강점기에 투쟁한 국학론에 기반한 것도 간과하지 못한다. 현재까지 축적된 도교학의 성과를 바탕으로 『조선도교사』를 읽을 때, 고조선 지역이 한국도교뿐만 아니라 중국 도교문화의 발원지일 수 있다는 이능화의 가설은 여전히 재론할 가치를 지닌다. 한국도교 자생설은 신선사상의 기원 문제와 맞물려 있다. 그 대표적인 근거가 황제동도설인데, 여기서 등장하는 ‘청구’의 위치가 ‘요동’에 있었다는 것을 전제로 한 것이 자생설이다. 이 논문에서는 자생설의 핵심 쟁점을 정리하고, 관련 문헌을 검토하여 ‘청구’의 위치가 ‘요동’에 있다는 점을 재확인하고, 이능화의 가설이 위진시대의 도교인들이 공유하는 인식이라는 사실을 새롭게 밝혔다. 또한 이능화의 신선사상 기원설은 “신선사상의 발원지가 한국이다”는 주장으로서, 이능화 이전부터 민족담론의 차원에서 제기되었다는 사실도 아울러 밝혔다. 이는 청구를 중심으로 하는 고조선의 강역에서 중국도교의 원형이 배태했다는 점을 시사하는데, 이것이 바로 한국도교 자생설에 내포된 신선사상 기원설의 의미이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to review in earnest the self-emergence discourse of korean taoism posed by the ‘History of Korean Taoism(朝鮮道敎史)’ written by Lee Neung-Hwa, through research results on Taoism in Korea accumulated to this day. The self-emergence discourse in which Lee Neung-hwa insisted on History of Korean Taoism is revealed in the form of national discourse, which was the national studies that fought during the Japanese occupation period. From this perspective, his hypothesis of the self-emergence discourse is worth discussing again, it is so called ‘Hwang-je left for the east(黃帝東到說)’. I have reviewed the historical literature sources on these issues, and confirmed that the position of Cheong-gu(青丘) is in Liaodong(遼東) Peninsula. Above all, what I have newly identified is common perception of the taoists in the Wei(魏) Chin(晉) southern and northern dynasties. That is, they all did not question the fact that Cheong-gu was in Liaodong. That location was not a place of fantasy that could never exist. In short, the claim of the the self-emergence discourses of korean taoism is that the birthplace of the Taoist immortal is in Korea. The argument that the ancient thought of Taoist immortal implies is to find a original form of Chinese Taoism in Korea. That is the argument for the origin of the thought of Taoist immortal implied in the self-emergence discourses of Korean Taoism.
