학대 피해경험이 심리사회적 발달에 미치는 영향: 성향점수매칭분석

The effects of child abuse on psychosocial development: Propensity score matching analysis

초록

본 연구는 국내 아동 및 청소년을 대상으로 학대 피해경험이 심리사회적 발달에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 학대 피해경험 여부에 따른 정서 문제(i.e., 주의집중, 우울, 공격성, 신체 증상, 사회적 위축), 자아 인식(i.e., 자아존중감, 진로정체감), 및 또래 애착(i.e., 의사소통, 신뢰, 소외)의 차이를 분석하였다. 분석 대상으로 한국청소년정책연구원(National Youth Policy Institute)이 실시한 한국아동청소년패널(Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey) 초4패널의 3∼5차 연도(초등학교 6학년∼중학교 2학년) 자료 중 1,685명의 자료를 활용하였다. 성향점수매칭분석(propensity score matching analysis)을 이용하여 사례별 성향점수를 산출하였고, 이를 바탕으로 1:1 매칭을 실시하여 집단 간 특성이 동일하도록 재구성된 학대 및 통제집단 각각 533명, 총 1,066명의 자료를 대상으로 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 학대 피해를 경험한 청소년은 학대 피해를 경험하지 않은 청소년에 비해 우울, 공격성, 신체 증상 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 더불어, 학대집단은 통제집단에 비해 자아존중감 및 진로정체감이 유의하게 낮았으며, 또래 관계에서의 소외를 많이 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 주의집중, 사회적 위축, 또래와의 의사소통과 신뢰에서는 학대 피해경험 여부에 따른 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구 결과는 학대가 정서 및 사회적 발달과 자아 인식의 발달을 저해하므로, 학대 피해경험 아동 및 청소년을 위한 종합적이고 다차원적인 심리사회적 개입의 필요성을 시사한다.

Abstract

This study investigated the differences between abuse and control groups in terms of emotional problems (i.e., concentration difficulties, aggression, depression, physical symptoms, social withdrawal), self-awareness (i.e., self-esteem, career identity) and peer attachment (i.e., communication, trust, alienation); in doing so, making use of propensity score matching analysis. For this purpose, relevant data was obtained from the third through fifth waves of the elementary school fourth grade panel of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. By a matching process using the propensity score, 1,066 (abuse group=533, control group=533) pieces of data were analyzed. The results of regression analysis indicated that compared with a control group with similar demographic characteristics, adolescents with a history of child abuse were more likely to have emotional problems such as depression, aggression, and physical symptoms. Moreover, the abuse group had lower self-esteem and career identity, and were more likely to experience peer alienation than the control group. However, there were no significant differences between the groups in concentration difficulties, social withdrawal, communication, and trust. The current results suggest that child abuse experiences disrupt emotional and psychosocial development, and that comprehensive and multidimensional psychological treatment aimed at individuals who have experience of being abused in these ways is necessary.
