본 연구는 2021∼2023년 기간의 전국사업체조사 원시자료를 활용해 기술 수준과 성장단계에 따라 제조 창업기업의 입지 선택 요인이 어떻게 달라지는지를 실증분석하였다. 기술 수준은 OECD의 분류 기준에 따라 고기술, 중기술, 저기술로, 성장단계는 업력을 기준으로 창업초기, 초기성장기, 도약기 등으로 구분하여 음이항 회귀모형을 통해 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과 어메니티, 산업구조, 인구구조, 생산요소 등의 범주로 구성한 지역특성변수들이 기술 수준과 성장단계에 따른 제조 창업기업의 입지 선택에 이질적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 기술 수준과 성장단계에 따라 제조 창업기업의 입지 선택에서 특정 지역 환경의 편익이 달라질 수 있음을 의미한다. 또한 각 지역은 보유하고 있는 환경이나 역량이 어떤 기술 수준 또는 성장단계의 제조창업 입지에 유불리로 작용하는지를 진단하고, 맞춤형 유치 전략을 수립해야 할 필요성을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study empirically analyzes how the location choice factors of manufacturing startups vary according to their technology level and growth stage, using Census on Establishments data from 2021 to 2023. The technology level is classified based on the OECD framework into high, mid and low technology. The growth stage is segmented into early stage, initial growth and leap-forward stage based on years of business. A negative binomial regression model is used to analyze the effect of region-specific variables on the location choice through these classifications. The results confirm that location choice factors for manufacturing startups differ depending on the technology level and growth stage as well. These results imply that the regional environmental benefits for a manufacturing startup's location choice can vary according to its specific technology level and growth stage. Therefore, it is suggested that regions should assess the environmental and external factors advantageous for attracting manufacturing startups based on their unique characteristics, and implement customized strategies.
