본 연구는 양육시설에서 생활하고 있는 청소년들이 시설 생활을 어떻게 경험하고 이해하고 있는가를 알아보기 위한 목적에서 이루어졌다. 이를 위해 대숙사 형태의 양육시설 한 곳을 찾아 중학교 1-2학년들의 이야기를 들어보았다. 자료수집은 주로 개별 및 집단면접을 통해 이루어졌고 질적연구방법의 일반적인 절차에 따라 자료를 분석한 결과 6가지 주제가 도출되었다. 청소년은 시설 생활에서 ‘시설은 삶의 일부’, ‘소통부재=일방통행’, ‘오붓한 가족생활을 그림’, ‘공동체라는 이름 속에 묻혀 지냄’, ‘성장을 자극하는 환경 부재’, ‘아이들끼리 더 가까움’을 경험하는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of adolescent's institutional lives. The existing research in this area has been conducted by Quantitative research methods with a home environment scale being used to measure unique institutional environments. As a result, the unique meaning of institutional life has passed unnoticed. Accordingly, this study focuses attention upon institutional life as it is experienced by adolescent themselves. For this purpose, I collected data mainly from interviews with six adolescents in their early adolescence, and analysed the data through a qualitative data analysis method. The results showed that six key experiences namely, “The institution forms a part of life”, “One way communication”, “longing for a cozy family life”, “to become immersed in communal living”, “absence of environmental stimulus”, and “being close to siblings”. Lastly, this study suggested measures to enhance the wellbeing of adolescents in institutional care.
