청소년시청보호시간대와 비보호시간대의 TV 선정성 수준 비교 : 등장인물의 인구학적, 사회관계적, 언어적 특성을 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 지상파 TV프로그램에서 묘사되는 선정성의 빈도 및 등장인물의 인구학적, 사회관계적 특성과 언어적 표현 등을 중심으로 주요 지상파 4개 채널로부터 2007년 한 해 동안 표집된 프로그램들을 내용분석하였다. 분석결과를 요약하면, 청소년시청보호시간대와 비보호시간대 간의 미디어 선정성의 수준은 크게 빈도 차원과 앞서 언급한 선정성의 맥락 차원에서 유의미한 차이를 나타냈다. 이는 청소년시청보호시간대라는 법적 규제 장치가 프로그램의 편성과 제작 과정에 있어서 일정부분 통제력을 행사하고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 이러한 결과는 최근 논란이 되고 있는 청소년시청보호시간대의 확대 시행에 대한 주장을 뒷받침하는 실증적 자료를 제공하고 있다고 할 수 있다.

Abstract

This study content-analyzed the frequency of sexual scenes and the actors' demographics, relationships, and use of languages on four primary Korean network channels during 2007. We found that two significant differences exist between sexual content in the programs before and after the end of TV viewing time zone for adolescents: first, in terms of the frequency of sexual references and, second, those contexts surrounding the observed sexualreferences. These differences imply that the legal regulation regarding the viewing time zone for adolescents is working quite efficiently. Thus, this finding provides empirical evidence supporting the argument for a possible extended enforcement of the viewing time zone for adolescents. Discussion regarding the social implications of these findings is included.
