Abstract
Utilizing the Survey on Media Use among Korean Adolescents in 2011, this study explored how parents’ restrictive mediation affects the amount of time that their children spend watching TV. The results revealed that the most popular time to view TV for adolescents is between 9 to 11pm and approximately 20 percent of them watch TV after midnight. Parents’ restrictive mediation helped to reduce the time spent watching TV. The effects of parents’ mediation are significant for elementary and middle school students, but are not in the case of high school students. In addition, restrictive mediation contributed to a reduction in the time elementary students spent watching TV after 8pm.
