지상파 및 케이블 방송의 청소년 시청가 프로그램에 나타난 폭력성의 비교연구

초록

본 연구는 지상파 및 케이블 방송의 청소년 시청가 프로그램에 나타난 폭력성을 비교분석하였다. 시청자들의 폭력성 평가에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 맥락적 요인으로서 가해자/피해자 유형, 물리적 폭력의 유형, 언어적 폭력의 유형, 폭력의 희화 등을 PAT 수준에서 분석하였으며, 또한 폭력의 현실성, 폭력의 의도성, 그리고 폭력의 내러티브를 프로그램 수준에서 분석하였다. 전반적으로 케이블이 지상파에 비해 높은 폭력성을 보였으며, 맥락변인별 분석에서도 일정한 차이를 나타냈다. 구체적인 시청등급별 분석에서는 지상파와 케이블 모두 시청등급에 따른 폭력의 양이나 맥락에 있어서 일정한 증감의 패턴을 보여주는 대신 비교적 고른 폭력분포를 보이는 것으로 관찰되었다.

Abstract

This study comparatively analyzed the violence on network and cable television programs and rated all on a scale of 7, 12, & 15. As contextual variables, which are assumed to influence viewers' evaluations of media violence, perpetrator/target types, types of physical and verbal violence, and the portrayal of violence as humor or comedy were analyzed at the level of PAT. The reality, intention, and narrative of the violence were also analyzed according to the level of the program concerned. In general, more violence was found to be present on cable TV than on networks, and the distribution of contextual variables was also different between these two types of media. Specific analysis concerning ratings showed no monotonic increase or decrease of the amount of violence and the contexts across programs of different ratings. Rather, it indicated an even distribution of violence.
