본 연구는 한국과 중국 그리고 일본 간 경제통합 수준을 나타내는 경제통합지수를 구축하였다. 첫째, 삼국 간 경제통합 단계의 개념을 제시하고 그 과정을 총 11단계로 분류하였다. 둘째, 경제통합의 개념을 제도적 통합과 관계적 통합으로 나누고, 관계적 통합을 다시 수렴과 교류적 측면으로 나눈 후, 16개 변수를 선정하였다. 셋째, 각 변수를 일차적으로 가공한 뒤, 최대치를 개념적으로 정한 후 정규화하여 실제 경제통합지수에 활용할 점수로 변환하였다. 마지막으로, 구축된 통합지수와 각 변수의 시계열 추이를 보고 삼국의 경제통합 수준이 어떻게 변하였는지 추론하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 16개 변수로 구성된 한중일 경제통합지수는 2010년 이후 2017년까지 꾸준히 하락하는 경향을 보여주었다. 둘째, 보다 장기적인 시계열을 구축할 수 있었던 12개 변수로 구축한 한중일 경제통합지수는 2001년부터 2009년까지 지속적으로 상승한 반면, 2009년부터 2017년까지는 지속적으로 하락하였다. 이러한 등락 현상이 나타남에 따라 2017년의 경제통합 정도는 2001년에 비해 높기는 하나, 많은 차이를 보여주지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper constructed an economic integration index that indicates the degree of economic integration among South Korea, Japan, and China. First, the paper presented the concept of how the three countries formed the integration, and classified it into eleven stages. Second, after dividing the concepts into institutional and relational integration, this paper reclassified the relational integration into interaction and convergence, and then selected sixteen variables. Third, after controlling all variables, they were converted into the scores used in the economic integration index by the normalization using the maximum values, which were conceptually determined. Fourth, the paper inferred on how the degree of economic integration was changed over time based on the indexes. The main results showed how the economic integration index, which consists of sixteen variables, showed a steady decline from 2010 to 2017, and the index that was composed of twelve variables, continued to increase from 2001 to 2009, while decreasing from 2009 to 2017. Even though the degree of economic integration in 2017 was higher than in 2001 due to these fluctuations, the difference was not much.
