본 연구는 아시아 지역 내 통합 정도를 보여주는 개념적 모형을 개발하고 이를 바탕으로 시계열 추이를 볼 수 있는 통합지수를 구축하였다. 첫째, 한국과 중국 그리고 일본을 연구대상 국가로 선정하였다. 둘째, 경제적 분야 외에도 정치적 그리고 사회적 분야도 함께 분석하였다. 셋째, 삼국의 통합 개념을 제도적 통합과 관계적 통합으로 나누고, 적절한 변수를 각 분야마다 선정하였다. 구축된 통합지수를 보면, 삼국의 경제와 정치 그리고 사회통합지수 모두 2000년대 초반과 비교하여 2016-2017년에 약간 상승하였으나, 각 통합지수가 등락하는 시점은 일치하지 않았다. 세 분야의 통합지수를 모두 합산한 전체 통합지수도 2000년대 초반 대비 2016년에 약간 상승하였으며, 비록 미약하지만 시간이 지남에 따라 삼국의 통합 수준이 증가했다고 할 수 있다. 향후, 본 연구 프로젝트에서 개발한 방법을 아시아 지역 전체로 확장한 통합지수도 구축할 계획이다.
Abstract
This paper developed the conceptual model that revealed the degree of integration within Asia, and constructed the comprehensive integration index representing its dynamic change. First, this paper selected South Korea, Japan, and China as sample countries. Second, it analyzed economic, political, and social fields together. Third, it divided the concept of integration into institutional and relational integration, and then, appropriate variables were selected for each field. According to the integration index, the three integration indexes rose slightly in 2016-2017 in comparison to the early 2000s, but the timing of fluctuations of each index did not coincide. The comprehensive integration index, which consisted of three fields, also increased slightly in 2016 in comparison to the early 2000s. Thus, the degree of integration among the three countries increased over time even though it was weak. The methodology that was developed in this research project is expected to be extended to more Asian countries in the future.
