본 연구에서는 수도권과 비수도권 지역을 중심으로 임금격차 크기와 임금격차결정요인의 변화를 살폈으며, 그 과정에서 신뢰성 있는 결과를 얻기 위해 선택편의를 고려했다. 2012년 대비 2022년에 임금근로자의 특성이 임금에 미치는 영향은 더 커졌으며, 특히 수도권에서 높게 나타났다. 임금격차의 크기 또한 0.0493 에서 0.0658로 더 벌어졌으며 그중 설명되지 않는 부분에 의한 비중이 증가했다. 수도권 근로자의 높은 학력 수준과 수도권의 높은 교육 투자수익률이 임금격차의주요 요인이었으며 직종 비중, 산업 및 직종 내 보수 차이 등이 그 뒤를 이었다. 장기적 관점에서 지역 간 임금격차 완화를 위해 비수도권 지역의 산업 구조 다변화와 교육 기회 확대를 위한 다양한 정책적 노력이 요구된다.
Abstract
This study examines the changes in the size and determinants of the wage gap between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, considering selection bias for reliability. Compared to 2012, the impact of worker characteristics on wages will increase in 2022, particularly in metropolitan areas. The wage gap widened from 0.0493 to 0.0658, with a larger share attributed to discrimination. Higher education levels and greater returns on education in metropolitan areas were the key drivers, followed by occupational composition and intraindustry wage disparities. To mitigate regional wage disparities, long-term policies should focus on industrial diversification and expanding educational opportunities in nonmetropolitan areas.
