聯句詩의 창작 방식과 배경 고찰 - 謙齋 趙泰億의 사례를 중심으로 -

본고는 謙齋 趙泰億(1675~1728)의 『謙齋集』을 대상으로 聯句詩의 창작 방식과 그 배경을 탐구해본 것이다. 이를 위해 우선 聯句 창작에 참여한 인원수에 따라 分聯 방식을 분석해본 결과, 한 편을 완성하기 위해 모든 참여원이 동일한 句數를 지어낸 것은 아니며, 예외적인 경우를 제외하고 대부분의 작품에서 정해진 聯句 순서가 존재하지 않았음을 확인하였다. 겸재가 다양한 공간에서 수많은 인물군과 聯句 창작을 할 수 있었던 것은, 官歷이 쌓이고 인간관계가 넓어지면서 자연스레 詩的 교유 대상이 확대되었기 때문인 듯 한데, 특히 지방으로 부임해가는 친척·직장동료·친구 등을 위한 송별연에서 이루어진 경우가 가장 많았다. 이렇듯 겸재가 전생애에 걸쳐 지속적으로 聯句를 즐길 수 있었던 것은, 자신의 詩才를 적극적으로 표출하고 이를 통해 서로간 문학적 교감으로 이어질 수 있다는 연구시 창작의 이점에 주목했기 때문이다. 앞 싯구에 적절한 뒷 구를 놓아야 한다는 기본 공식 아래, 聲律 문법 및 의미상의 연결까지 유념하는 등 작법상의 복잡한 제약이 존재했던 만큼, 이를 완수했을 때의 쾌감은 물론 타인으로부터 자신의 재주를 검증받았다는 성취감이 고조되었다. 뿐만 아니라 앞 싯구의 감상에 그치지 않고, 적절한 뒷 구로 이어내기 위해 앞 사람의 생각을 공감하면서 자신의 생각을 창의적으로 다듬어내야 했는데, 이러한 문학적 성취는 바로 참여원간의 문학적 교감 여하에 따라 결정되었던 것이다. 즉, 韻字를 나누어[分韻] 싯구를 연이은[聯句] 겸재의 作詩 행위는, 단순한 詩文酬唱을 넘어 함께한 인물들과 情을 나누고 緣을 이어나가는 인간 관계의 행위로 진전될 수 있었다.
Abstract
This paper aims to explore the creation methods and backgrounds of successive lines of verse written by the gentry during the Joseon Dynasty period, centering around 『Gyeomjaejip (Gyeomgjae’s Collection of Poetry, 謙齋集)』 written by Gyeomjae Jo Tae-eok(1675~1728). For this study, firstly, the stanza(分聯) forms were analyzed depending on the number of the persons, who were involved in the creation of successive lines of verse. As a result, it was found that all the participants did not create the same lines(句數) for completing a piece of poetry and there was no fixed sequence of successive lines of verse in most of works, excepting exceptional cases. It appears the reason why Gyeomjae was able to create numerous characters and successive lines in various spaces was the poetic association naturally expanded while he accumulated official careers and broadened human relations. Especially, the majority of his works were created in farewell parties for relatives, co-workers and friends, who were assigned to positions in provinces. Gyeomjae could keep enjoying the creation of successive lines throughout his lifetime, since he paid attention to the advantages of the creation of successive lines to express poetic talent(詩才) actively and form literary communion with others. As there were complicated restrictions on creating techniques, such as linkage of phonological styles and meanings, under the basic rule that a front verse should be followed by a proper rear verse, he felt the pleasure when completing this and there was a big sense of accomplishment rose by having his talent recognized by others. In addition, he had to emphasize with thoughts of former writers and elaborate his view in a creative way to connect a rear verse to front verses properly. This literary accomplishment depended on literary communion among the participants. In other words, Gyeomjae’s creation of poetry to divide rhythms(分韻) and link them in succession(聯句) developed into an act of human relations to share affection and keep ties with co-writers beyond the cantillation
