Abstract

Objectives: This study explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven digital healthcare technologies, such as smart home devices and assistive robotics, on promoting autonomy, psychological security, and well-being among older adults in a super-aged society. Methods: Utilizing a qualitative meta-synthesis approach, this research synthesizes findings from studies examining the interactions of older adults with digital healthcare tools. Emphasis is placed on factors affecting technology adoption, functional integration, and perceived psychosocial benefits. Results: The analysis yielded five core themes: initial interaction with AI and curiosity, economic and operational challenges, perceived informational utility, integration into routine life, and expectations for enhanced interactivity. Although AI technologies foster security, physical safety, and social engagement, issues such as economic burden, usability barriers, and limited emotional responsiveness present ongoing challenges. Conclusion: Findings emphasize the dual role of AI-driven healthcare technologies in providing both functional support and emotional companionship. Optimizing the adoption and effectiveness of such technologies requires user-centered, accessible, and economically sustainable designs tailored to the unique needs of older adults. This study provides critical insights for advancing inclusive digital health solutions that enhance quality of life and support independent living.
