연구목적: 이 연구는 발달장애 자녀가 취업으로 전환되는 시점에 부모가 어떤 인식과 감정을 지니게 되고 어떠한 요구를 드러내는지, 현실과 제도 속에서 어떤 상황을 경험하는지 심층적으로 들여다보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 연구 참여자는 동일한 지역사회의 문화를 공유하는 발달장애인 자녀를 둔 부모 10명으로, 연구자의 인적 네트워크를 활용한 네트워크 표집을 통해 선정하였다. 자료 수집은 반구조화된 방식의 심층 면담을 통해 이루어졌으며, 반복적 비교분석법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 부모들은 자녀의 취업 전환의 과정을 바라보며 가능성과 한계 사이에서 끊임없이 흔들렸다. 둘째, 부모들은 제공자 중심의 불분명한 취업 경로 속에서 희망보다는 한계를 먼저 경험하고 있었다. 셋째, 부모들은 자녀의 취업 이후 삶을 단순히 고용의 유지로 보지 않고, 일이 관계와 삶을 이어가는 일상이 되기를 바랐다. 시사점: 부모의 경험을 통해 볼 때, 발달장애인의 취업은 단순히 노동시장으로의 진입을 의미하는 것이 아니라, 한 가정의 일상을 지켜내는 힘이자 사회가 함께 풀어야 할 과제임을 시사한다.
Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to explore in depth the perceptions, emotions, and demands of parents regarding the career and employment transition process of their children with developmental disabilities after graduation. Method: The participants were ten parents of individuals with developmental disabilities residing in the same community, selected through network sampling using the researcher’s personal connections. Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth interviews, and the transcribed data were analyzed using the constant comparative method. Results: First, parents continuously wavered between possibilities and limitations while observing their children’s employment transition process. Second, they tended to encounter limitations before hope within the unclear and provider-centered pathways to employment. Third, parents regarded their children’s post-employment lives not merely as job retention but as a process through which work becomes part of daily living and helps sustain relationships and everyday life. Implications: Parental experiences suggest that employment for individuals with developmental disabilities is not merely about entering the labor market, but rather represents a source of strength for sustaining family life and a challenge that society must address together.
