개혁교회The Reformed Church는 시대와 장소에 따라 수많은 신앙고백들을 가지게 되었다. 곧 교회가 처한 상황에 대한 정확한 이해를 근거로 해서 성경적 신앙고백을 늘 추구했다는 의미이다. 이러한 개혁교회 역사에서 신앙고백의 선구자로서 위치하는 것이 1563년 독일에서 태어난 『하이델베르크 요리문답』 der Heidelberger Catechismus이다. 16세기 종교개혁 시대 루터의 나라 독일에서 스위스 종교개혁 신학을 받아들여 형성된 『하이델베르크 요리문답』은 21세기에 이르러서까지도 개혁교회의 중요한 신앙 유산으로 평가되고 있다. 『하이델베르크 요리문답』은 1618/19년 돌트 총회Dordt Synod 이후, 벨기에 신앙고백, 돌트 신경과 함께 개혁교회의 3대 신앙고백으로 받아들여지고 있다. 의심할 것 없이 『하이델베르크 요리문답』은 종교개혁 시대 가장 폭넓게 사랑을 받았고, 가장 따뜻한 평가를 받은 요리문답이었다. 그러기에 『하이델베르크 요리문답』을 향한 한국교회의 균형 잡힌 관심과 연구는 요구된다. 그렇지만 한국교회는 『하이델베르크 요리문답』을 향하여 교의신학적dogmatic 연구에 집중하였다. 이런 맥락에서 필자는 『하이델베르크 요리문답』에 대한 그 역사와 정신을 교회사적으로 이해하려고 한다. 그런 후 16세기 독일을 위시한 유럽 대륙에서 태어난 개혁신학의 실체를 정확히 이해함에 목적이 있다. 이러한 역사적 이해로부터 개혁신학을 표방하는 21세기 한국교회를 자리매김할 수 있길 소망한다.
Abstract
The Reformed Church has had many confessions in different times and places. Based on the issues the Church faced at that specific time, a biblical confession was made addressing those issues. In 1563, the first of these confessions the Heidelberg Catechism was written. During the 16th century Reformation, Luther's Germany received Swiss reformation theology which was core in the Heidelberg Catechism. Along with the Dordt Synod 1618/19, the Belgic confession, the Heidelberg Catechism is considered one of the 3 core confessions of the Reformed church. Without doubt, the Heidelberg Confession is the most beloved confession and the most warmly reviewed of the three. For this reason it is imperative for the Korean Church to research deeply and fairly this topic. At the current time, the Korean Church lacks fair analysis and reviews of this important confessions. For this reason I wish to further research the history and spirit of the Heidelberg Catechism. Through this we stand to better understand the Reformed Church and it's roots. Through this historical understanding of the Heidelberg Catechism it is my hope the 21st century Korean Presbyterian Church can continue progressing in it's development.
