탈권위적인 포스트모던 시대라 할지라도 하나님의 말씀은 설교자와 청중 모두에게 ‘하나님의 말씀’으로서의 권위를 갖는다. 청중에 무게중심을 둔 신설교학 혹은 귀납적 설교학은 청중의 지위를 바르게 취급하지 못하고 있다. 설교에서의 청중의 책임을 강조한 아담스의 접근은 적절한 것이다. 아담스보다 수 백년 앞서 설교에서의 청중의 책임을 일깨운 영국 청교도들의 효과적 설교 청취의 기술에 귀를 기울여 보자. 설교란 단순히 설교자만의 사역이 아니라, 설교자와 청중 모두의 협력적 사역이기 때문이다. 윌리암 퍼킨스와 리차드 십스는 설교 청취에 있어서의 청중의 의무를 강조하였다. 또한 설교 청취에서의 성령의 사역을 강조하였으며, 그들의 이러한 가르침은 우리 시대에 시의적절하다.
Abstract
Although we live in a post-modern age characterized by neglecting authority, God's word has still authority as 'God's word' for both the preacher and the listeners. New homiletic or inductive homiletics heavily focused on audience does not properly deal with the position of the audience in preaching. Adams' approach to the responsibility of audience in preaching is right and good. We need to listen the advice of English puritans, at least three centuries earlier than Adams, who teach the duty of audience in preaching and an effective skills for listening sermons. Preaching is not a ministry of preachers alone, but also a collaborative ministry of both preachers and listeners. William Perkins and Richard Sibbes stressed the duty of audience in preaching. They also underlined the work of the Holy Spirit in listening sermons. Their teaching is very necessary for us today.
