최근 국내 물류산업은 글로벌화가 가속화되고 전문화 및 대형화의 추세로 물류기업에 대한 외국인들의 투자가 증가하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 비방사적 Malmquist 지수를 이용하여 국내 물류 기업의 효율성 및 생산성변화를 측정하고 외국인 투자가 물류기업의 효율성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 분석을 위해 코스피와 코스닥에 상장된 물류기업을 대상으로 2011년부터 2016년까지의 재무정보를 한국신용평가데이터베이스(KIS-VALUE)에서 수집하여 이용하였다. 효율성측정을 위한 투입 요소로는 종업원 급여, 유형자산, 운영비용을, 그리고 산출요소로 매출액, 영업이익, 당기순이익을 사용하였다. 분석결과 기술적 효율성(TECI)은 분석기간 동안 8.3% 하락을 보인 반면, 기술 변화(TCI)는 4.3% 증가한 것으로 나타나 물류기업의 생산성 감소는 기술적 효율성 퇴화에 기인한 것임을 알 수 있었다. 패널 Tobit 모형을 이용하여 외국인 투자지분율이 효율성에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 평균외국인지분율(FOR_ave)과 기말외국인지분율(FOR_end)이 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 외국인 투자와 물류기업의 효율성 간의 관계를 규명한 연구가 미흡한 상황에서 외국인 투자자가 물류기업의 경영의사결정에 효과적인 감시기능을 함으로써 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였다는 점에 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Recently, the foreign investors are increasing the investment for domestic logistics companies since the globalization of the logistics industry has accelerated. This study examines the relationship between foreign investor ownership and logistics firm’s efficiency. Our sample consists of 138 firm-year observations listed on the KSE and KOSDAQ for the period of 2011-2016. For the empirical analysis, we measure firm’s efficiency using the non-radial slacks-based Malmquist productivity index in order to directly deal with both input surpluses and output shortfalls. The input variables used in this study are salary, tangible assets and operating cost. The output variables are sales, net profit, and operating profit. Our results show that TECI(technical efficiency) is decreased by 8.3% during the analysis period, while TCI(technical change) is increased by 4.3%. These results imply that the productivity decrease of foreign-invested logistics companies is due to the technical efficiency degradation. Also, the result of panel Tobit analysis shows that the FOR_ave(the average ownership of foreign investor) and the FOR_end(the end ownership of foreign investor) have a statistically significant effect on the efficiency of logistics companies. This study empirically shed light on something to lack of the literature on the relationship between foreign investor ownership and logistics companies' efficiency. In addition, the result of this study provide an useful information to practitioners and academics on the role of foreign investors for logistics industries.
