Abstract

Based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research investigates gender differences in relationships among factors affecting information technology acceptance. The model is tested using LISREL analyses on the sample of 293 users (145 female and 148 male) who have experienced Internet Banking Systems. The results of the study indicate partial support for the conceptual model. Compared to women, men's technology usage decisions are more strongly influenced by their perceptions of usefulness. In contrast, women are more strongly influenced by their perceptions of ease of use, subjective norm, and self-efficacy. These findings suggest that researchers should take into consideration gender factors in the development and testing of information technology. Additionally, managers and practitioners should realize that information technology adoption may be perceived differently by women and men. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.
