Abstract
As an alternative to consumers’ ad avoidance behavior, native advertising is expanding with the growth of SNS platforms. However, due to the nature of SNS, the effect of the consumer recognition of the ad on the advertising effect cannot be explained by only advertising avoidance. This study, therefore, examines how native advertising recognition in the context of SNS influences advertising effectiveness through SNS advertising value. Survey-based data were collected for consumers with experience in native advertising on SNS and SEM models were analyzed using AMOS 22. Advertising recognition has a positive effect on cognitive resistance and affective resistance, while cognitive resistance and emotional resistance have a negative effect on advertising attitudes and sharing intentions as expected. Perceived manipulation has mediated the effect of advertising recognition on cognitive resistance, while perceived intrusiveness has mediated the effect of advertising recognition on affective resistance. For marketing practitioners, the result suggests that native advertising should be considered based on the value of SNS advertising, since it creates resistance that has a negative impact on sharing intention and advertising attitude.
