본 연구는 해방 이후 70년 동안 한국에서 이루어진 통일 분야 연구가 어떤 추세(trend)를 보이고 있는가를 연구물의 계량 분석을 통해 고찰하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 본 연구의 분석 대상은 단행본, 등재(예정)지, 학위논문 등 3,000여 편이다. 분석 결과, 통일정책 분야가 1,235편(39%)으로 가장 많았고 사회문화 분야가 841편(26.6%)으로 그 다음 순위를 차지하였다. 제1차 남북 정상회담이 있었던 2000년에 185편이 출간되었다. 통일문제 관련 논문은 1,753편이 실린 등재(후보)지가 1위를 차지하였다. 정부별로는 김대중 정부 시기에 773편이 발간되어 연구가 가장 활발하게 진행되었다. 전반적인 특징으로는 통일정책이나 통일방안 연구가 주류를 이루는 가운데 사회문화 분야 연구가 경제 분야보다 많았다는 점을 꼽을 수 있다. 이는 정치학 이외의 학문 분야에서도 통일문제 연구가 다양화가 이루어지고 있다는 방증이기도 하다. 그러나 김대중 정부 이후 전반적으로 통일 관련 연구가 점차 줄어가는 추세가 나타났다. 이는 국민들뿐만 아니라 학자들의 통일문제에 대한 관심이 줄어들고 있다는 증거이다. 따라서 향후과제는 연구자들이 어떻게 좀 더 현실적인 연구를 하여 통일에 대한 국민적 관심을 제고시키느냐 하는 문제이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze, the trend of the unification studies for 70 years following the independence from Japan by using the quantitative research method. As is required for effective research, the information presented in this study was collected by multiple means and from multiple sources such as related books/book chapters, journal articles and academic theses (3,000 papers in total). Special attention is given to exploring the nature of the study and it is analyzed based on the related study areas of ‘unification policy’; and ‘social and cultural research’; as well as ‘economics.’ The findings reveal that the unification policy accounted for 39 percent of the study with 1,235 papers. It was followed by social and cultural research with 841 papers (26.6percent). The majority of the papers were published in 2000, the year which held the first inter-Korean summit; 773 papers were published in Kim Dae-Jung regime. Among 3,000 papers, 1,753 of them were published in journals. As a result, while the unification policy and unification plan papers take up the mainstream of the study, a sufficiently increased number of social and cultural studies have been published when it was compared with economy-related ones. Therefore, it can be concluded that the studies of the unification issues are being diversified in addition to politics as this paper demonstrated. However, the trend also shows that unification related studies have been decreased there after Kim Dae-Jung regime. Also, the interest in unification has been declined among scholars as well as the general public. All the best future research will be to increase interests and participation in the national dialogue of the unification.
