Abstract
This paper examines the posthumous disposition of Jeong Do-jeon's family and the formation of later traditions regarding his former residence. Although King Taejong punished Jeong's family, no specific measures were recorded concerning the handling of Jeong's residence, making it difficult to determine what actually happened to the site. In the late Chosŏn period, however, a tradition emerged claiming that Jeong’s former residence became the Office of Royal Stables (Sa-bok-si) and the Office of Supplies (Je-yong- gam). Although this tradition may not be factually accurate, it reflects how later generations connected Jeong’s downfall to a transformation of space. By analyzing the political handling of Jeong’s death and subsequent memory reconstruction, this study explores early Chosŏn political order and the dynamics of memory formation.
