모리오가이(森鷗外)의 『무희(舞姬)』발표배경에 관한 고찰

Abstract

In 1884, at the age of 23, Moriogai was sent by the Japanese Army to study in Germany. In August 1884, he departed Yokohama. After he finished studying abroad during four years, he arrived in Yokohama in September 1888. He published his first work Maihime in January 1888, his second work Utakatanoki in August 1890, and his third work Fumitsukai in January 1891. The works are called the trilogy. Junsaburo, Moriogai’s younger brother, said that Moriogai’s first work was Utakatanoki. However, Moriogai published Maihime earlier than Utakatanoki. Why did he publish Maihime first? There are several kinds of reason for publishing Maihime. First, Morigai felt sorry for Alice who came to Japan together with him. Second, the work implies the explanation submitted to Isikurotadanori, Moriogai’s direct supervisor in the Japanese Army, and also a silent protest against the Meiji bureaucracy. In Maihime, at the same time, since he suggested that Morigai was a guardian of Yamakataaritomo, a strong man in the Japanese Army, he intended to take up a position. Thus, this had an effect on blocking a scandal of German woman. Anyway, Morigai’s love affair with Alice caused him to create Maihime which was full of writing and creating ability. I think that this affair resulted in starting to write a novel.
