Abstract

Naoya Shiga's Abashirimade seems to be composed of small real experience and objective information based on the added reality to the author's fabrication. However its being composed of non-literary contrived elements in a large part cannot be denied. This study has proved Naoya Shiga's imagination in Abashirimade was rather excessive imagination thorough analysis. Furthermore this study has dealt with the contrived elements such as the misconception of truths and scientific errors with the relation to the structure of the work one by one. Nevertheless, this study also dealt with the literary attributes of Naoya Shiga and the structure and the aesthetics of Abashirimade, defining the process forming thick literary value of this work as a literary element. In other words, Abashirimade constantly aims at the acquisition of literary value like the wheels of the steam locomotives based on the literary elements such as <prudential expression> <realistic description> <humanity> <aftertaste>. Meanwhile,<delusions and speculation>, <fact mistaken>, and &lt;scientific errors>, etc. disappear like the smoke of a steam locomotives due to the rhythm and the velocity of a running train. Meanwhile, the farness of Abashiri can be accepted as a symbol of a bitter struggle to find literary values. As for the contents, Abashiri symbolizes a long journey of a woman's life in adversity However, the image of a woman rising above all kinds of hardship overlaps the ponderous image of a steam locomotive. In other words, in Abashirimade, the imaginary space, fiction and facts, is replaced with a steam locomotive, a symbol of the modern time through author's realistic depiction and infinite interest in human beings.
